KUCHING, Aug 22: Several roads in Kuching will be closed for the ‘God Pageant Ceremony 2023’ religious prayer procession today beginning at 3.30pm and expected to end by 11.30pm.
According to Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a media statement, the event, organised by the Heng Hua Seng Tiong Society, is expected to draw a crowd of 3,000.
The procession will start from Jalan Central Timur, then makes its way to Jalan Padungan, Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Green Hill, Jalan Temple, Jalan Wayang, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan McDougall, Jalan Tabuan, Jalan Ban Hock, and back to Jalan Central Timur.
Therefore, the following roads will be closed starting today from 3pm until 11.30pm:
- Jalan Gambir to Jalan Main Bazaar
- Jalan Main Bazaar to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg
- Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg to Padang Merdeka
- Jalan Tabuan to Jalan Ban Hock
- Jalan Tabuan to Jalan Wayang
- Jalan Padungan to Jalan Bukit Mata
- Jalan Temple to Jalan Main Bazaar
He added that to prevent congestion, the public are advised to use the following alternative routes:
- Vehicles passing through Jalan Tabuan from Jalan Simpang Tiga are advised to move to Jalan Central Timur or Jalan McDougall to avoid congestion at Jalan Wayang.
- Vehicles coming from Jalan Haji Taha are advised to make a U-turn at the mosque roundabout to avoid congestion at Jalan Gambir.
“We (PDRM) request the public’s cooperation to not park their vehicles on the roadsides and to plan their journeys using the alternative routes,” he said.
