Several areas in Kapit hit by flood, MP Nanta urges residents to comply with authorities’ instructions

KUCHING, March 21: Continuous heavy rain for the past few days has caused floodwaters to rise in several areas in Kapit.

Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said several schools, roads and areas in Kapit were affected by the flood while electricity to several areas had to be temporarily cut off due to the rising floodwaters.

“I have directed all responsible parties to take appropriate actions to assist residents in facing the flood disaster at this time,” Nanta, who is also Minister of Works, said in a Facebook post.

He also urged all residents comply with the instructions of the authorities on duty to ensure their safety and to avoid any unwanted occurrences.

Schools affected by the flood include Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Yong, SK Bena Sut, SK Nanga Kebiaw, SK Nanga Antaroh, and SK Nanga Bena.

Floodwaters have begun to recede at three schools namely SK Nanga Kebiaw, SK Nanga Antaroh, and SK Nanga Bena.

Other affected areas include Kampung Muhibah at Jalan Bleteh; Kampung Baru, Jalan Abg Sulaihi; Lorong 7 Jalan Airport, and Ng Seranau.

Roads and electricity to Sg Sibau (Rh John Ramba), Rh Riti, Ng Tulie, Pulau Pisang area and Ng Baleh were also temporarily cut off. – DayakDaily
