KUCHING, May 21: Several agreements of understanding will be reached by June to address telecommunication issues in Sarawak.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) yesterday (May 20), Communications and Digital Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil said he is hopeful that the agreements which include those from a commercial aspect between telecommunication companies and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will be able to solve the problem.

“I have asked MCMC to hold a meeting with all telecommunications companies so that a way forward can be decided with the involvement of telecommunications companies on the towers built by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Digital Economic Corporation Berhad (SDEC),” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He added that MCMC has been instructed to hold discussions with representatives of telecommunications companies to resolve the problem of network sharing for towers that have been completed but are not yet operational in Sarawak.

On May 19, Ahmad Fadzil said more than half of the telecommunications towers in Sarawak are ‘still naked’. — DayakDaily
