KUCHING, Aug 9: Five women and two men were found safe after they got lost while hiking at Mount Santubong here last night.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received the emergency call at 6.40pm and deployed a rescue team to the scene immediately.

According to statement from the state Bomba operations centre, firefighters at the scene were informed by an officer from Permai Camp that the hikers were found safe at Teluk Belian at 7.50pm. The hikers were brought to Teluk Sari before being taken back to Permai Camp.

Bomba had deployed a rescue boat to Teluk Sari to extract the hikers but the operation failed due to the river water receding. Throughout the operation, Bomba stayed in contact with the officers and the hikers to ensure the hikers were safe.

All the hikers safely reached the beach through the forest at 12.35am today. One of the hikers was reported as fatigued after the long walk. ā€” DayakDaily
