KUCHING, March 10: Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem urges the federal government to expedite the construction of the Tebedu Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) Complex.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Riot emphasise that the need to build the new CIQS is because it is the only land-based international gateway between Malaysia and Indonesia.
“The allocation to build this new CIQS has been approved under the previous 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11),” he said during a debate session at the Dewan Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur today.
Riot said the construction of the Tebedu CIQS is in preparation for the relocation of Indonesia’s capital to Kalimantan.
He pointed out that the relocation will lead to rapid development as well as an increase in the population in the region in the future.
“The situation would also lead to economic spillover effects where more Indonesians will enter Sarawak either as tourists or businessmen,” he opined. — DayakDaily
