KUCHING, Sept 4: The Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Serian has reached 518 as of 10am today.
According to data from the API Management System (APIMS) under the Department of Environment, Serian has been recording rising API levels, with its last reading at 495 at 7am today before rising to 502 at 8am and 510 at 9am.
Kuching recorded the second-highest API reading at 310, while Samarahan and Sri Aman recorded 281 and 245, respectively.
Unhealthy readings were recorded in Sarikei (181), Sibu (177), Bintulu (157), Samalaju (152), and ILP Miri (116), and moderate readings were recorded in Limbang (94), Miri (91), and Kapit (90).
The reading in Mukah was unavailable at the time of press.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said an API reading of 500 or above could prompt an emergency declaration for the affected area under National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) Directive No. 1.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 hazardous. — DayakDaily
