Sentosa Hospital receives RM400k for new car parks, installation of air conditioners for multipurpose hall

KUCHING, Oct 31: A sum of RM400,000 has been allocated for Sentosa Hospital, Kota Sentosa here under Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap’s 2023 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project funding to carry out the construction of additional car parks, which will be implemented and supervised by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

According to a press release issued today, Yap, Penghulu Lai Boon Khee, and Kapitan Lee Tho Fung, along with officers from MPP, met with representatives from Sentosa Hospital and the Sarawak Health Department this morning to identify a suitable site for the construction of additional car parks with proper drainage.

“During the coordination meeting, representatives from Sentosa Hospital also requested funding for the installation of the air conditioners for their multipurpose hall.


“YB Wilfred Yap has agreed to utilise part of the approved RTP 2023 funding of RM400,000 for installation of six 1.5 HP air conditioners and minor upgrades for the multipurpose hall,” read the press release.

It went on to say that Sentosa Hospital, which is located at Mile Seven in the constituency of N12 Kota Sentosa, is a psychiatric hospital in Sarawak that first opened its doors in 1958.

“The original name of Sentosa Hospital is Sarawak Mental Hospital. Sentosa Hospital provides mental specialist services for outpatients and inpatients.

“The lack of parking spaces as well as people parking at the roadside have caused traffic inconveniences to visitors and outpatients seeking treatment at the hospital.

“Once completed, the additional parking lots will have proper entry and exit points and will definitely ease traffic congestion at the hospital.”

The press release further noted that MPP is now in the process of preparing drawings, specifications for the scope of works, and a bill of quantities with input from Sentosa Hospital.

“YB Wilfred Yap is aware of the numerous poor and unsatisfactory infrastructure in certain areas of N12 Kota Sentosa that needs to be urgently resolved and is committed to securing more government funding for their repairs, improvements, and upgrades.

“YB Wilfred Yap appeals for the public’s patience as a lot of the problems are long outstanding and had existed long before he was elected,” it said. — DayakDaily
