Senior citizen homeless after fire razes home in Lawas

LAWAS, Sept 10: A 62-year-old man was made homeless after his house at Kampung Serdang, Jalan Kuala Lawas was completely destroyed by fire this evening.

The man lived alone in the non-permanent structure.

Lawas fire station chief PPgB Zaki Hussin in a statement revealed they received an emergency call at 5.48pm and despatched a team of eight firefighters and a prime mover water tanker, to the scene located five kilometers away from the station.


“According to the victim, he was sawing wood outside the house when he noticed the fire in his bedroom area. He tried to put it out but failed as the fire spread very fast.

“Firefighters proceed to carry out their work, with water sourced from their prime mover water tanker. The fire was under control by 5.59pm and the whole operation ended at 7.40pm,” Zaki added. — DayakDaily
