BINTULU, Sept 10: Senator Abun Sui Anyit’s delegation escaped death after being involved in a road accident at KM65, Bakun-Bintulu Road, around 6.30pm yesterday.
At that time, Abun Sui was driving in a separate vehicle when the vehicle behind him lost control and overturned.
He blamed the road condition near the bend along the federal highway, which was filled with puddles caused by uneven road surface and an unmaintained drainage system.
“The heavy rain yesterday caused the puddles. Despite driving about 70km per hour, the accident still occurred.
“According to road users who frequent the road, accidents at KM65 road had claimed two lives so far,” he said in a statement today.
Abun Sui further called on the Ministry of Works (MOW) to conduct a review and monitor the maintenance of the federal road.
“If possible, the government is requested to repair and increase the quality of the road from time to time.
“If necessary, we need to appoint a better contractor to maintain the road because the road’s condition worsens by the day.
“Otherwise, accidents will continue to happen due to the bad road conditions,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
