MIRI, Jan 22: Upon receiving an incident report that a house had collapsed at Tudan Phase 1, Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin immediately visited the victims to understand their situation yesterday.

There were four victims all of whom are siblings, and their parents have passed away.

Three of them are currently still studying with the youngest only eight-years-old and a student at SK Tudan Jaya.

“It was suspected that the house collapsed due to recent heavy rain which affected the foundation of the house which was built on stilts in a peat area,” said Lee.

No one was injured when the house collapsed yesterday.

Lee has requested Welfare Officer of Miri Division, Pengiran Najib to arrange for welfare officers to attend to the case.

At the same time, Lee has also arranged for Malaysian Red Crescent Miri branch to prepare some dry food rations for the family.

He will look into the rebuilding of the house.

During yesterday’s visit, Lee handed over financial assistance under his Senadin Service Centre to the victims to help them to go through this difficult time.

The villagers of Tudan Phase 1 have also shown their community spirit by helping the victims to collect their belongings from the house.

Lee also helped to make arrangements to transport their belongings to their relative’s house where they are being temporarily accommodated.

Also at the incident site were Cr Toh Kah Shiong, Kapitan Chong Ah Muk, Chief of Lutong Fire and Rescue Station, Henry Jugah and his officers, Headmistress of SK Tudan Jaya, Suriyati Amit and her school’s Parent Teacher Association members, The Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei Rt Revd Datuk Danald Jute and Father Moses Likong Ujan from St Matthias Tudan Anglican Church, welfare officers and volunteers from Malaysian Red Crescent Miri Branch. — DayakDaily
