Semiconductor manufacturing factory site of new workplace cluster with 10 Covid-19 cases confirmed

KUCHING, Sept 5: A semiconductor manufacturing factory located at Persiaran Silicon, Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone here is at the centre of a new workplace cluster dubbed the Persiaran Silicon Cluster with 10 Covid-19 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said the patients comprised workers and occupants of the factory.


The committee also reported a community cluster in Kuching dubbed the Annah Rais Cluster with 28 confirmed cases so far.

The cluster involves the residents of Kampung Annah Rais located at Jalan Kampung Sadir-Simuti-Sibakar off Jalan Padawan here.

A total of 30 individuals have been screened whereby 28 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case while two others are awaiting test results.

All positive cases from both clusters were referred and admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Kuching Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) and Kuching Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

With this, there are now 46 active clusters in Kuching.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of five clusters, namely the Balai Ringin Melayu Cluster in Serian; Jalan Ding Lik Kwong Dua Cluster in Sibu; as well as Jalan Stutong Baru Cluster, Taman Yen Yen Cluster and Kampung Jaya Bakti Cluster in Kuching.

At present, there are 137 active clusters in the State with 21 of them reporting an increase of 417 new positive cases today. — DayakDaily
