New community clusters in Bintulu, Bau see 64 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, Sept 5: A total of 64 Covid-19 cases have been identified from two new community clusters with one in Bintulu and the other in Bau.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the cluster in Bintulu, dubbed the Simpang Bakun Cluster, involved residents from a longhouse located near Bakun Junction, along Bintulu-Bakun road.

The longhouse is currently placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).


For the Simpang Bakun Cluster, a total of 42 residents were tested positive out of 133 individuals swabbed while the balance of 91 people are still waiting for their swab test results

SDMC added the positive cases from the cluster were admitted to Bintulu Hospital and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) in the district for isolation and further treatment.

Meanwhile, in Bau, another community cluster dubbed the Pangkalan Bau Cluster was declared, involving residents of two villages from Kampung Pangkalan Bau and Kampung Pangkalan Loji, which is located along Bau-Lundu road.

Out of the 53 individuals screened, 22 were tested positive for Covid-19, while 26 were tested negative, and five individuals are still waiting for the results of their swab test.

The committee added all infected individuals from the cluster were sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Covid-19 Assessment Center (CAC), and PKRC in both Bau and Kuching districts for treatment. – DayakDaily.
