Self-employed man fined RM2,000 for giving false information to govt officer

KUCHING, Dec 29: A self-employed man was sentenced to a fine of RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here for giving false information to traffic police.

Steve Ashley Stanley, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

The magistrate sentenced him to a fine of RM2,000 or in default to three months imprisonment.

Steve was charged with giving false information to the traffic police at Padawan police district traffic investigation department office, at about 4pm on June 23.

The accused was arrested by a team of traffic police as he was suspected to have presented a bogus plate number.

During the investigation by the police, the accused gave someone else’s vehicle grant to the police officer in charge and told the police that it was the grant of the motorcycle that he was riding on.

The police later on found out that the accused had given false testimonial during interrogation to cover the fact that he was riding a motorcycle that was stolen.

He was charged under Section 177 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries maximum imprisonment of two years or with fine, or both, upon conviction.
