SIBU, Dec 29: More billboards will be erected here to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, says Sibu District Officer Suhaili Mohamed.

Speaking to the media after unveiling a ‘Say No to Drugs’ campaign billboard in front of University of Teknology Sarawak (UTS) today, Suhaili said more billboards would be erected around the town to raise public awareness.

According to Suhaili, his office has identified several locations but he declined to reveal the locations.

He thanked the Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) for allowing the billboard to be erected in front of UTS.

ā€œInstalling and constructing such billboards is an example of a joint programme with community leaders and the public in the fight against drugs.

ā€œThe Sibu District Office has received government funds for the programme but it had to be postponed following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic,ā€ he said.

Since last year, he explained, some events which his department had planned had to be put on hold.

ā€œHopefully next year, we can start all the programmes we have planned. The funds are already with us, so itā€™s up to us to implement and we just have to wait for the right time,ā€ he said.

On the launch of the campaign, Suhaili said it was held in collaboration with the Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association and One-Stop Centre.

Also present were Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming and his deputies Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai and Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar. ā€” DayakDaily
