SELANGAU, March 10: A road linking Sekuau to Ulu Oya, Ulu Pakoh, and connecting it with Kanowit is needed to speed up the development of these areas.

This proposed project, according to Selangau MP Edwin Banta, must include basic amenities such as electricity and treated water supply.

“This matter has been raised within the Mid Rajang Development Agency to develop four constituency areas in the Rascom area, namely Tamin, Kakus, Ngemah, and Machan.

“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced RM1.5 million, which has been approved,” he said.

Edwin said this last night (March 9) at a police appreciation ceremony at the Dewan Penghulu Balang, which was held in conjunction with the Rascom Scheme’s Golden Jubilee.

He added that a project plan would be drafted soon and that they would also gather community leaders, longhouse chiefs, and government officials from the respective areas to discuss the ideas and development plans to be implemented.

Edwin added that he had also discussed with the Land and Development Board (LCDA), and they had expressed interest in bringing in a company to develop sugarcane plantations and build a sugar factory in this area, but it has yet to be implemented.

He said he hoped to follow up on the matter by discussing it with community leaders and village chiefs, as he believed it would ensure the continuous progress of this area.

Meanwhile, on the event, Edwin said that the service and sacrifices of the security forces, particularly the police, who fought during the communist insurgency in the 1970s, are highly valued.

“Hence, tonight’s event is held to commemorate their struggle in combating the communist terrorists and in conjunction with the 50th Golden Jubilee of the Rascom Scheme,” he said. — DayakDaily
