KUCHING, March 11: Kidney patients in Selangau will no longer need to travel long distances for life-saving treatment, as the much-anticipated Kidney Dialysis Centre at the Selangau Health Clinic is set to begin operations in June 2025.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Selangau member of parliament (MP) Edwin Banta said the new facility will significantly ease the burden of patients who have had to commute to Sibu or Mukah for dialysis sessions.
The centre is expected to reduce travel time and costs while allowing patients to receive treatment more conveniently and comfortably.
“I greatly appreciate the concern shown by the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia, especially Deputy Health Minister Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, who paid serious attention to this issue after I raised it during a visit to the Selangau Health Clinic in January 2024,” he was quoted as saying.
He made the remarks during a donation handover ceremony for fire victims at Rumah Nyawai Anak Radin in Sungai Duan, Jalan Bukut-Ladang Empat, Balingian on Sunday (March 9).
During the event, Edwin also presented RM16,000 in financial aid to the affected families.
Following the ceremony, the Selangau MP visited Rumah Petrous Ambun in Lubok Bukut to meet local community leaders and discuss the pressing needs of residents from four nearby longhouses. — DayakDaily
