KUCHING, Oct 25: The State Health Department has confirmed the emergence of a new Covid-19 cluster in Kuching which has been named the Seladah cluster.
In a press statement today, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) revealed seven Covid-19 cases has been traced to the cluster including the index case (no. 771), a kuih seller who tested positive on Oct 23.
Seventeen close contacts to the index case have been screened for Covid-19 with two of them testing positive on Oct 23 and four persons testing positive today.
The committee noted that out of the six Covid-19 positive contacts, five of them are close family members while one is a customer of the index case.
Active case detection is being carried out by the State Health Department.
Thus, there are currently four active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak ā the Seladah, Bah Arnab and Baki clusters in Kuching, and the Putra cluster in Bintulu.
The Baki Cluster registered three new positive cases. A total of 96 individuals have been screened so far with eight testing positive, and the rest negative.
For the active case detection which was carried out at Kg Haji Baki, SDMC revealed 691 individuals were screened by the State Health Department for Covid-19 and all were awaiting laboratory test results.
There were no new cases from the Bah Arnab and Putra clusters.
For the Seladah cluster, a total of 18 individuals was screened for Covid-19 with seven testing positive, four negative, and the balance of seven awaiting laboratory test results.
SDMC also revealed that a total of 50 Covid-19 patients are being treated in hospitals with 43 at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and seven at Miri Hospital. ā DayakDaily
