KANOWIT, Oct 26: A security guard from a government department in Sibu was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with a van at Jalan KJD Kanowit yesterday.
The victim has been identified as John Bundong Merejek, 58, of Rumah Mathaten, Jalan Salim.
Kanowit District police chief DSP Tega Bilong said in the 3.40pm incident, a salesman, 41, was driving a van from Durin to Kanowit when he saw a motorcycle which was travelling in the opposite direction, turned from left to right.
“The machine suddenly crossed to his side. He tried to avoid it by hitting the brake but failed. As a result, a head-on collision occurred,” he said.
The victim succumbed to a serious head injury while the van driver was unhurt. A passenger of the van, 67, suffered an injury on his heel. —DayakDaily
