Second boat carrying five anglers reported missing, SAR op underway

KUCHING, Oct 4: A second boat was reported missing yesterday, only one day after a boat carrying 10 people was reported to have gone missing (Oct 3).

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today citing a statement from Malaysian Martime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia), a boat with registration number QKH9826 SH was reported missing.

It was carrying five anglers.


“At 5pm (yesterday), a rescue team has found an orange-coloured lifebuoy which belongs to the boat.

“The lifebuoy was found 34.5 nautical miles from the Sungai Santubong river mouth.

“The search and rescue (SAR) operation was postponed at 7pm due to limited visibility and will continue at 7am (today),” it said.

Earlier, a boat carrying 10 anglers and boat skipper was reported to have sunk on Oct 2.

Nine out of ten persons who were reported to be on the boat at the time have been rescued while the SAR operation is ongoing to find the boat’s assistant skipper who is still missing. — DayakDaily
