KUCHING, March 2: The Sebauh Sports Complex in Bintulu, valued at RM8.4 million, is expected to be completed by July 2026, providing modern sports facilities for rural communities.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the project is a joint effort by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak. It is expected to be built on a 12.795-acre site.
Sarawak’s Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, stated that the project is crucial in providing a platform for rural communities to engage in professional sports.
“This is an essential facility, especially for rural residents, to ensure they have the opportunity to participate in professional sports,” he was quoted as saying during a press conference after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the project today.

Dr Stephen Rundi said that this project is part of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s initiative to ensure development is not concentrated only in Bintulu city but also extends to suburban and rural areas like Jepak and Sebauh.
“We hope this project will transform the development landscape of Sebauh in the future,” he added.
The sports complex is expected to feature an eight-lane synthetic running track, a FIFA-standard football field, a main grandstand, and various athletics facilities, including long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, pole vault, discus throw, and hammer throw.
He also emphasised the government’s commitment to implementing more development projects in Sebauh, including a bridge, Sebauh New Township, mosques, and churches, to ensure balanced growth alongside urban development in Bintulu.
The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by Bintulu Division Resident Datu Nyurak Keti, Sarawak JKR director Dr Cassidy Morris, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Morshidi Frederick, Sebauh district officer Thadeus Ling Bartholomew Ding, and political secretary to the Sarawak Premier Colin Patan. – DayakDaily
