KUCHING, March 4: Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) subsidiary company Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesc) sign a key terms sheet with Petronas subsidiary company, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) for long term electricity supply to Petronas LNG Complex (PLC) in Bintulu.

Sarawak Energy and Petronas in a joint statement today said, under the key term sheet, Sesco is committing to provide 90 megawatts (MW) of electricity supply at 275 kiloVolt (kV) to the Petronas LNG Complex in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu for a term of 20 years, starting from March 2024.

He said Sarawak Energy was pleased to work with like minded organisations that believe all parties have a role to play in mitigating climate change through responsible action.

“Allow me to congratulate Petronas on their aspiration to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. We look forward to working with you to advance this ambition through this term sheet and other collaborations to contribute to the creation of a sustainable energy future,” he said in his remark during the virtual signing ceremony held in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, today.

At the same time, speaking on behalf of Petronas, Tengku Muhamad Taufik said the partnership today signifies Petronas’ commitment towards ensuring accessibility of cleaner energy sources as the company navigates through the global energy transition.

“The power import deal with Sarawak Energy represents a necessary and elegant solution as this partnership enables us to increase the sustainability of our operations at PLC and reduce our Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, bringing us closer towards our Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 aspiration,” he noted.
