KUCHING, May 29: Southeast Asia’s (SEA) first solar panel manufacturing facility in Sarawak is expected to create 2,000 job opportunities.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, this was disclosed by ADAM Digital Assets Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Dato Sri Khalid Abu Bakar after a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Abu Bakar said the employment opportunities are expected to come from the first and second phases of the facility.

He added that his side would be working with a company from China to develop the solar panel manufacturing facility at Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu.

Meanwhile, on the courtesy visit, Abu Bakar said the purpose was to request assistance from the Sarawak government to supply more power to the company for the manufacturing facility.

He also said the Premier has recommended that they plan their power needs precisely for 2025 and beyond and conduct discussions with Sarawak Energy Berhad on the matter.

“We require approximately 270 megawatts in 2025 for the first phase of our facility.

“After talking with the Premier, we understand SEB’s capabilities, and we will discuss with them about some of the capabilities they can supply to our company, starting in 2025 until the full requirement of 700 megawatts,” he said. — DayakDaily
