MIRI, Dec 20: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched after a man was reported to have fallen into the river near the Pujut 7 Bridge at Sungai Miri this morning.
According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call regarding the incident at 7am before despatching a team of firefighters from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene, approximately 8 kilometres from their station.
“According to witnesses, the man was swept away by strong currents and disappeared from view.
“Initial ground searches began shortly after the Bravo team arrived and gathered information from the victim’s family members at the scene,” the report said.
SAR efforts included surface water searching using an aluminium boat and a ground search covering a 2-kilometre radius from where the man was reported to have fallen.
The operation was halted at 6.06pm due to darkness and heavy rain, with no sign of the victim. — DayakDaily
