Search efforts underway for tourist reported missing on Mount Santubong

KUCHING, May 17: A search and rescue operation (SAR) is underway for a tourist from Cyprus who has been reported missing at Mount Santubong.

The tourist identified as Marhelos who is in his 20s, registered with the Sarawak Forestry Department at the foothills of Mount Santubong at 9.10am yesterday.

At 1pm, the tourist contacted a forest ranger and was able to inform the latter of his last location which was at Level 15, before communication was cut off.


Lans Corporal Sidi Marikan of Santubong Police Station informed Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) of the incident.

An eight-member team, led by Bomba Petra Jaya station chief Tan Min Chai was despatched. As of 5.20pm, the climber has yet to be found. — DayakDaily
