SAR team members searching for the missing boy at the location yesterday (Feb 15, 2023).

KUCHING, Feb 16: Efforts to find two-year-old Muhammad Rayyan Bujang Abdul Qayyum who is still missing continues today with the search area expanded to a 3km radius at Batu Perigi Quarry, Jalan Kampung Perigi in Sematan.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak Operation Centre reported that a seven-member team from the Bomba Lundu Station headed by Pathi Samsudin and including its K9 Unit are now conducting searches around the oil palm plantation on the second day of the boy’s disappearance.

“The Search and Rescue (SAR) team is divided into two groups with operations adopting the base line method within 3km radius from the location where the victim was reported to have gone missing,” Bomba said in the report.

Other agencies also involved in the SAR operation include the police, Civil Defence Force (APM) and local residents.

It was reported yesterday (Feb 15) that the boy was last seen playing outside a hut behind the quarry workers’ quarters.

A missing person report was filed at 2.05pm after the boy’s mother who was waiting for her husband to return from work at the Batu Perigi Quarry hut noticed that the boy, affectionately called ‘Bujang’, was nowhere to be found.

The mother had called out and searched for her son together with her husband and some workers around the area but failed to locate the child’s whereabouts.

A SAR operation was immediately mounted in areas around and behind the house, the quarry area within a radius of up to 1km up to the part of the oil palm plantation area. The operation was later postponed at about 6pm. — DayakDaily
