KUCHING, Aug 3: The Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway from Kuching to Jakar, Sarikei was so smooth that the journey only took about three hours.
On a quest to send over 1,000 books and soft toys to the Sekapan children and youth in Belaga, DayakDaily drove over 600 kilometres all the way to Bintulu today.
The drive on the highway up until Sarikei was fairly enjoyable, with minimum traffic and absolutely no ‘snaky’ diversions and backpain-inducing bumps.
We hit the road at 9am and by 12.20pm, we were already sitting at the corner coffeeshop in Jakar, waiting for our prawn noodles to be served.
After lunch, DayakDaily continued on the road trip to Bintulu through the Sarikei Nyelong Bypass.
From there, we could not travel as fast as we hoped for. Sections of the Sibu-Bintulu road are still in construction, so vehicles were moving on single carriageways.
It was nearing 4.30pm when we arrived in Bintulu, right before rush hour.
All in all, the road trip from Kuching to Bintulu, including three stops for lunch and toilet breaks, took about seven hours today, which could have taken longer with the road condition in the past.
It seems that the unfortunately dubbed ‘Pain-Borneo Highway’ nickname will soon become defunct, as the highway is quickly gaining a reputation for its smooth stretches that traverses towns and districts in Sarawak, bringing more convenience to Sarawakians. — DayakDaily
