KUCHING, Sept 2: Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah prefers Kuching to host swimming, diving and tenpin bowling events for Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2027.

According to Abdul Karim, Sarawak has the best facilities for these events after the upgrading works carried out to host the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) here recently.

“For example, for tenpin bowling, I don’t think there is any other state that has 42 bowling lanes such as at Megalanes.

“Another example is our shooting range. Presently, it is the top in Malaysia after Sukma upgrades which we spent almost RM4 million just on the electronics,” he told a press conference at Baitulmakmur Building 2 here today.

Asked if Sarawak has any preference for track and field events to be held in Kuching, Abdul Karim said he will discuss the matter with Kuala Lumpur.

He explained that Sarawak should not monopolise organising sports events and leave others with events that have less supporters.

He pointed out that it is a must to understand that most of the sporting events have financiers and sponsors, and they might want to see certain sports event held in Kuala Lumpur. — DayakDaily
