SDMC: Sungai Sian Cluster detected in Meradong with 22 Covid-19 positive cases

KUCHING, May 29: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has today declared one new cluster in Meradong dubbed the Sungai Sian Cluster, after a total of 22 positive cases were detected.

SDMC in a press statement today said the Sungai Sian cluster is a community cluster involving one longhouse in Sungai Sian area.

According to SDMC, the infection spread through social activities conducted among the longhouse residents.


“A total of 57 individuals has been screened, and 22 of them, including the index cases was found positive for Covid-19, while 30 of them were negative, and five cases still waiting laboratory test result,” it said,

SDMC added, all the positive cases have been referred to Sarikei Hospital and placed at the quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC).

Meanwhile, SDMC also announced the end of seven clusters in the state after zero new cases were reported in the past 28-days.

The clusters are namely Jalan Ding Lik Kwong cluster in Sibu, Passin cluster in Matu, Duranda Emas cluster in Serian, Sungai Tuah cluster in Kanowit, Durin cluster in Bau, Sungai Sebemban cluster in Bintulu, and Asia Villa cluster in Kuching.

As of today, a total of 79 clusters remain active throughout the state, with 11 clusters recording an additional 47 new cases, while the rest recorded zero new cases. — DayakDaily
