KUCHING, May 18: The Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) will be organising a virtual Brown Bag talk on ‘Reforestation and Circular Economy in Sarawak’.

The talk will be delivered by WWF-Malaysia’s conservation director Dr Henry Chan who is also a member of SDI on May 20, Thursday at 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm via Microsoft Zoom.

SDI in a press statement said the topic on circular economy will provide the right information and knowledge sharing to help all stakeholders address the climate change issues and provide input on ways to develop a green economy for the State.

“In the era of global warming, we need to take all efforts to reduce our carbon emissions.

“At the same time, we must maintain and increase our natural forest cover as a carbon sink to absorb the carbon emissions.

“The parallel effort on Reforestation and Circular Economy serves as a crucial tool to address climate change,” SDI said.

The institute said Chan will share some of the strategies to incorporate reforestation into a circular economy and the conceptual thoughts on how different players can form a consortium to transform the space between growing trees into renewable energy and produce at a scale that reduces our dependence on fossil fuel to power our economy.

Meanwhile, SDI said the talk is open to members of the public.
