KUCHING, April 13: The Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications (MUT) Sarawak, through Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), will install technology transmitter equipment known as ‘Multi-Operator Core Network’ (MOCN) in every telecommunications tower that has not yet been equipped with it.
According to a news report published by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), MUT Sarawak minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said that this us to ensure that telecommunication companies use only one set of transmitting equipment to provide services to users.
“Installing telecommunication equipment takes time. This is a fact because it does not mean that once the telecommunication tower is built, the people will be able to enjoy the Internet network.
“SDEC will install equipment that will enable all telecommunications companies to be able to use it by installing MOCN,” he said during a working visit to Kampung Selangking Simunjan in Simunjan on Wednesday (April 12).
He added that although the provision of telecommunications infrastructure is the responsibility of the central government, the Sarawak government has allocated as much as RM1.8 billion to upgrade telecommunications facilities, especially in rural areas.
“This is not an excuse but the Sarawak government is still trying to enable telecommunication towers to be equipped with telecommunication equipment,” he explained.
During the working visit, Julaihi, who is also the Sebuyau assemblyman, distributed ‘bubur lambuk’ and dates to the mosque and the villagers.
Also present were Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, MUT Sarawak permanent secretary Jafri Lias, Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Ir Chang Kuet Shian, Samarahan Division acting resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang, and Simunjan District Officer Seroji Ludin. — DayakDaily
