KUCHING, Nov 20: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) has unveiled a strategic collaboration with Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB), Zecon Berhad (Zecon), and Global Network Inc (GNI) to jointly develop and invest in the highly anticipated Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP) with Special Economic Zone status.
The collaboration was formalised yesterday during the signing and exchange ceremony, witnessed by SDEC chairman Tan Sri Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
In a media release today, SDEC emphasised that this partnership represents a significant step toward advancing Sarawak’s leadership in green technologies and digital infrastructure.
The signatories were PHB Group managing director cum chief executive officer (CEO) Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit, SDEC CEO Dato Ir Ts Sudarnoto Osman, GNI executive director Devid H. Gubiani and Zecon Berhad Group managing director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
KPGTP is envisioned as a sustainable, high-tech township that integrates environmental sustainability with cutting-edge technological innovation.
It will serve as a model for future developments, aligning with Sarawak’s long-term sustainability goals and economic aspirations.
This collaboration aims to pool the expertise, resources, and networks of the four partners to build a state-of-the-art township equipped with green technologies, fostering innovation and economic growth.
Currently in its first phase, KPGTP is working toward securing the status of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Malaysia Digital Cybercity (MDC), critical designations for attracting substantial foreign direct investment (FDI) to Sarawak.
Deputy Premier and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan emphasised that this development is expected to generate RM12 billion investments and create 10,000 jobs during the construction phase in 2030.
“KPGTP is designed as a modern industrial park, which focused on attracting investment in green technology sectors.
“The park will serve as a hub to foster collaboration among industry leaders, research institutions and startups through a supportive ecosystem,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly.
SDEC will spearhead the integration of digital infrastructure, ensuring the park’s role as a hub for modern industries. This initiative also aligns with SDEC’s broader strategy to attract data centre investments under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Commenting on the agreement, Morshidi said that the collaboration marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Sarawak, as it moves towards a more sustainable and digitally-driven future.
“I believe that by harnessing cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions, we are on the right track to accelerate economic growth, enhance environmental stewardship, and improve the quality of life for the people of Sarawak,” he said.
PHB is a real estate investment holding company with its core business in acquiring, developing, and managing properties at prime locations in Malaysia.
