KUCHING, Mar 27: Schools may temporarily be closed if temperatures exceed 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days, says Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Who.

In a Bernama news report, he said that the measure, which is part of guidelines set by the ministry since 2023, and can be implemented if hot and dry conditions worsen.

“State education departments and schools have sufficient experience in managing the current situation.

“We recognise this remains a challenge for the ministry in ensuring the comfort and health of students,” he said after a working visit to a school in Ipoh today.

He added that if temperatures range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days, outdoor school activities must also be suspended.

At the same time, school administrators nationwide have been directed to monitor daily temperature levels within their respective districts. — DayakDaily
