KUCHING, Jan 23: The night view along the Sarawak River is expected to be even more breathtaking once the waterfront project from Darul Hana Bridge to Satok Suspension Bridge is completed.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the entire stretch of waterfront including the two landmark bridges will be illuminated and the landscape will be beautiful.

“Once everything is completed, it will be the main tourism attraction in Kuching city centre.

“The two bridges will be lit up, and when that happens, Sarawak (River) will look very pretty at night,” he said during an appreciation dinner at a local hotel here tonight.

Abang Johari said the project to upgrade the waterfront is already in the pipeline while construction for the first two phases which is from Kampung Sungai Bedil to Kampung Lintang, and from Kampung Lintang to Kampung Tupong Tengah, is ongoing.

The third and fourth phases will involve the upgrading of the waterfront near Satok Suspension Bridge to Kampung No. 3.

The Satok Suspension Bridge was officially reopened on Nov 21, 2021 and since then, it has been lit with flickering decorative lights every night.

Currently, the bridge is, however, not open to the public for leisure activities due to ongoing construction. — Dayakdaily
