SIBU, Jan 7: A woman was fined RM500 by the Magistrate’s Court today after she pleaded guilty to unlawfully obtaining money from a job scam.

The unemployed accused, Wendy Jee Siao Ting, 21, from Sri Aman was charged under Section 37 (1) of the Sarawak Minor Offence Ordinance 1958.

The court was told that the victim, a 19-year-old secondary student had on Dec 11, 2021,  seen a job offer by one Angel Wong on her Facebook account. The job involved packaging small items like toothbrushes.

Since the victim was interested, she sent her personal particulars through an SMS to the suspect.

She was asked to make payment of RM365 and an additional RM2,000 as a security deposit.

After making the payment, she was told that the money did not reach the company that offered her the job.

The victim had from Dec 11 to 17 transferred a total of RM7,365 to the accused’s account. She had also sent another RM1,850 to another person’s account number.

The money was from her parents’ savings.

The victim realised that she had been cheated when the suspect continued to ask her to make more payments. — DayakDaily
