KUCHING, May 5: After meeting with the contractors and the Public Works Department (JKR), the Sungai Bintangor Bridge project is to be expedited further with an expected completion before the end of 2024, says Satok assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki.
According to him, the project was approved for expedited completion, with construction scheduled to continue until 10pm through overtime, following discussions and approval from the local villagers during a meeting.
“We are looking to expedite this further with no interruptions to the works; it is possible that it can even be opened by the end of this year,” said Ibrahim upon officiating the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Zone 2 Aidilfitri celebration at Dewan Datu Merpati Jepang yesterday (May 4).
He said that the delays in the project were attributed to material shortages and other factors, including price escalations of steel following the construction pause amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We also faced other issues such as drainage problems in the area as well as the sensitivities of the local community nearby who are against construction works during certain times,” said Ibrahim.
The resolution of community issues is actively pursued through the development committee of PBB Satok, led by the political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister, Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie.
Also present at the event were the political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Abdul Samat Gany; Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman; and Irwan, who is also the event’s organising chairperson. — DayakDaily
