Attempt to smuggle 22,000 cartons of liquor in Mukah foiled

MUKAH, May 5: The General Operation Forces (GOF) foiled an attempt to smuggle in 22,000 cartons of liquor in Mukah on Friday (May 3).

Three local men and a foreigner, all aged between 43 and 59, were detained, along with the liquor together with two vessels, two trailer lorries, and ten trailers, bringing the seizure value to RM11,327,200.


Speaking on the case, Mukah district police chief DPP Muhamad Rizal Abdullah said the GOF team from its headquarters in Kuching had at about 7.30pm conducted a raid on a wharf in Jalan Feri Lama based on information received.

“They found 22,000 cartons of liquor placed inside ten containers in a cargo vessel,” he said.

He said the four suspects failed to produce valid documents and were arrested.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
