KUCHING, Aug 12: Two young Sarawak BMX riders have emerged as Malaysia’s top performers in their respective categories after strong showings at two consecutive international championships in Negeri Sembilan.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news, Wan Muhammad Zulfahmi Wan Ridzauddin and Ahmad Zafry Akhtar Ahmad Jumry delivered strong performances at the Asian Championship BMX Racing 2026 and Malaysia International BMX Racing 2026, held at the Nilai BMX Track on Aug 8 and 9.
Wan Muhammad Zulfahmi finished fourth in the Boys 13 category at the Asian Championship, making him the highest-placed Malaysian rider in the category.
He followed that with another strong performance the next day, finishing fifth in the Boys 13 category at the Malaysia International BMX Racing and again emerging as the best-placed Malaysian rider.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zafry improved his standing in the Youth 15 category.
He finished 10th at the Asian Championship before moving up to fifth at the Malaysia International BMX Racing, where he was also the highest-placed Malaysian rider in the category.
The two championships attracted 414 riders from Indonesia, Japan, China, India, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, with several Sarawak riders also making their mark.
Three other Sarawak riders reached the semi-finals, with Ahmad Zharif Ahza Ahmad Jumry, Adrean and Nur Aleeya Qaleesya Zickry Azizan advancing to the stage. Muhammad Hanif Darwish Zickry Azizan, meanwhile, competed through the moto round.
The back-to-back international events provided the young riders with valuable experience against strong regional competition while highlighting Sarawak’s emerging talent in BMX racing. — DayakDaily
