KUCHING, Aug 12: Construction works for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project along Jalan Tun Jugah are expected to intensify in stages until the end of the year, with road users warned to anticipate heavier traffic and partial road closures.
Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, the implementer, maintainer and operator of the KUTS project, said the ongoing works include construction of the elevated guideway for Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles.
“The works involve the construction of piers, pier caps and guideway beams, as well as an ART station near the Simpang Tiga roundabout,” the company said in a statement today.
Several sections of Jalan Tun Jugah have been partially closed to facilitate the movement of heavy machinery and allow construction activities to proceed safely.
The affected stretch is particularly between the Jalan Tun Jugah–Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho–Jalan Song intersection and the Simpang Tiga roundabout.
Sarawak Metro said motorists should expect increased traffic congestion in the affected areas throughout the construction period and plan their journeys accordingly.
The company urged road users to exercise caution when travelling through the construction zone, comply with traffic management measures, follow road signage and observe designated speed limits.
Motorists are also encouraged to consider alternative routes to reach their destinations and allow additional travel time when passing through the affected areas.
Sarawak Metro said it would continue issuing public announcements to keep road users informed of any road diversions, lane closures and other traffic management measures associated with the project.
