KUCHING, July 26: Sarawak’s water supply remains under control despite the ongoing hot and dry weather, with state authorities maintaining constant monitoring of major reservoirs and water sources.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi assured that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are in place to ensure that water levels remain sufficient for domestic use.

“Our SOP is to continuously monitor all our water sources. We are working closely with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), and we are always prepared to ensure water supply needs are met.

“So far, the situation is still manageable. Our existing water treatment plants across Sarawak are still able to meet demand, except in isolated cases where supply may be disrupted due to leakage—either from third-party interference or aging pipes,” he told reporters after officiating Powering Knowledge: PETRONAS’ MLNG Bestari Outreach Programme held at SMK Sebuyau today. An audio recording of the press conference was shared with DayakDaily after the event.

Julaihi noted that the agencies under his ministry—including the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board, and Laku Management Sdn Bhd—are all on standby to address any issues that may arise due to the prolonged dry spell.

At the same time, he urged the public across Sarawak to use water wisely and to follow official advice during this period of hot weather.

“Let us all be prudent and responsible in our water usage. It is a precious resource for everyone in Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
