BAU, May 1: Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah promised that Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) would get electricity soon.
He said he felt sad after learning that BBHC still uses generators to supply electricity.
“Even though that (electricity supply) might not be under my ministry but I will work it out with the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (MUT).
“It is such a shame because this is a place where many visitors are coming, whether domestic or foreign visitors.
“I also believe that nowadays, among the few important things that must be provided when it comes to a place like this are electricity, clean water, and digital connectivity,” he said when officiating Bung Bratak Day 2023 held at BBHC here today.
He also stressed that he was unaware of the issue of no electricity at BBHC, suggesting that the matter may not be followed up with.
“I was pretty surprised just now that the federal government has come over to assist in developing this place, but it (is) short of the electricity supply.
“If the federal government has built all the infrastructure, the Sarawak government can provide the amenities. So I will look into this and ensure that it (electricity) will be in place as soon as possible,” he added.
He further encouraged travel and tour agencies to consider placing BBHC as part of their packages. He urged the BBHC management team to upgrade the necessary amenities, such as clean toilets and proper accommodation.
Amongst those present were BBHC chairman Datuk Peter Minos, Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) Dato Henry Harry Jinep, who is Tasik Biru assemblyman, Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang. — DayakDaily
