Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the prizes to the winners at the event.

In his speech, he revealed that e-sports would be included in the next Malaysia Games (Sukma) hosted by Sarawak next year.

“We will be approaching the private companies before the next Sukma because we need the support of the private sector when it comes to building up e-sport.

“We have not identified the venue yet but if this hotel (Riverside Majestic Hotel) is suitable, there is a possibility that we can ‘adopt’ this hotel again as the venue for e-sports in the upcoming Sukma,” Abdul Karim said.

Organised by Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) through the National Department of Youth and Sports (JBSN) in collaboration with Sarawak E-sports Association (SESA), the event was supported by MYSED.

The event saw the participation of 1,476 people from Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan, Brunei, Indonesia’s Kalimantan as well as invited teams from Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia where the online preliminaries were conducted from Dec 9 to Dec 31 last year.

Also present were KBS deputy secretary-general Abdullah Hasan; MYSED permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick; National Sports Council (NSC) deputy director-general Suhardi Alias; Sarawak federal deputy secretary Banges Munga; Sarawak Youth and Sports Department director Lamat Nyalau; Business Events Sarawak chief executive officer Amelia Roziman; JBSN Recreational Sports Development branch director Nor Azli Mohamad Daud; and SESA president Afiq Fadhli Narawi. — DayakDaily
