KUCHING, Jan 1: The Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) region has attracted a total approved investment of RM123 billion this year, with an estimated 53,829 job opportunities to be created.

Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni emphasised that the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) in Bintulu remains a key driver of Score’s economic success.

The park continues to draw global investments, particularly in the steel and solar manufacturing industries.

“This year alone, SIP has secured 14 approved investors, totalling RM51.6 billion in approved investments, reinforcing Sarawak’s position as a power-rich investment hub.

“We are also proud that our efforts align seamlessly with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Sustainable Sarawak Blueprint, reinforcing our commitment to long-term sustainability and prosperity for the region,” he said in a media release today.

Ismawi expressed optimism for future developments, with transformative infrastructure projects planned for the upcoming year.

Among these are the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH) in Limbang and Lawas, the roads connecting Miri-Marudi, Marudi-Mulu, and Long Panai-Long Lama (MMMLL), as well as the commencement of Phase 1 of the New Lawas Airport, all set to begin construction in the second quarter of 2025.

“These projects will bring Sarawak closer to achieving a comprehensive road network, improving connectivity for communities in the interior and unlocking new opportunities for growth and development,” he said.

Reflecting on the past year’s progress in bridging the urban-rural divide, Ismawi revealed that 275 infrastructure projects have been successfully completed, supported by both Sarawak and federal allocations.

These projects, which include roads, bridges, utility infrastructure, and poverty alleviation initiatives, span across the three Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) — the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), Highland Development Agency (HDA), and Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

Recoda has completed 138 projects across the RDAs, with 64 more currently under implementation and 45 in the design, planning, or tendering phases.

Additionally, among the federal projects in the Score region, 16 have been completed, nine are under implementation, and one is in the detailed design phase.

“None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of our leaders, investors, stakeholders, and partners.

“Your trust and collaboration have been essential in overcoming challenges and driving progress. We are deeply grateful for your continued commitment as we work together to lay the foundation for a brighter, more sustainable future for Sarawak,” Ismawi noted.

As Sarawak steps into 2025, Ismawi called on all stakeholders to carry forward the momentum built over the past year, embracing new challenges and opportunities with the same determination and shared vision that has propelled their progress.

“With these ongoing initiatives, Recoda reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development, poverty alleviation, and community empowerment across Sarawak.

“Together, we will shape a brighter, more sustainable future for Sarawak. On behalf of Recoda, I extend my heartfelt New Year greetings to all — may 2025 bring prosperity, health, and success.” — DayakDaily
