KUCHING, Sept 7: The RoboNova-X team from the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Sarawak Campus in Miri was crowned the champion of the RoboMission Senior Category at the prestigious 2025 World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Open Championship Europe in Slovenia.
According to a press release, the championship was held from Sept 2-5 at Ljubljana, Slovenia and drew in 210 teams from 45 countries, involving nearly 1,500 participants from Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Turkey, Taiwan, Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ghana, Croatia, Romania, Malaysia, and many more.
With the theme ‘The Future of Robots’, the championship served as a platform for young innovators to showcase their skills in robotics, engineering, and problem-solving.
Team Malaysia consisted of Grace Tan Hong Hui, Audrey Kong Siau Jing, and Elaine Wong Nga Hui, who were coached by Tesslab Robotics and guided by lecturers Dr Hu Laey Nee and Dr Norsarihan Ahmad.
“The team rose to the occasion with extraordinary talent, precision, and teamwork. Outperforming 28 international contenders in their category, RoboNova-X secured the top spot, bringing pride not only to Sarawak but also to Malaysia,” said the press release.
This victory underscores Sarawak’s emerging leadership in robotics and STEM education, reflecting the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak in nurturing young talent and driving technological advancement.
