KUCHING, Oct 16: Investors who harness Sarawak’s green energy in their production processes will gain a green premium, a market advantage driven by rising global demand for low-carbon products.

In a TVS news, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the world is increasingly focused on environmentally friendly goods produced using renewable energy, positioning Sarawak’s green energy as a key value proposition for both local and international investors.

“Investors who come to Sarawak and manufacture products using green energy will benefit from a green premium.

“This means their products will have stronger market appeal because they are produced through low-carbon processes. The world is now seeking green products that do not harm the environment,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Mega Fair 2025 held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore today.

At a press conference later, Abang Johari said the Sarawak government is offering a range of attractive investment incentives to encourage foreign participation, including from Singapore, particularly in clean energy and sustainable industrial sectors.

“We provide incentives comparable to those offered by MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority), along with additional State-level advantages such as land size and pricing flexibility, land premium adjustments, and competitive energy tariffs.

“At present, Sarawak offers the lowest industrial power tariff in Malaysia,” he said.

He added that the specific rates and types of incentives will be determined based on the scope and nature of each investment through discussions with agencies such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak, to ensure a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Abang Johari also emphasised that Sarawak’s political and administrative stability continues to be a major factor in reinforcing investor confidence.

“For any investor, the first thing they look for is stability. Thankfully, Sarawak enjoys that stability. As you can see, nearly half of my Cabinet is here today and this is a reflection of our stable government, safe communities, and secure business environment,” he said.

Expressing confidence in the State’s direction, Abang Johari affirmed that with strong political stability, investor-friendly policies, and sustainable green energy resources, Sarawak is well-positioned to become a regional leader in green energy and a premier investment destination by 2030. — DayakDaily
