KUCHING, July 21: The success Sarawak enjoys today is a testament to the unity and harmony of its multi-racial people, as well as the commitment of its past and present leadership in steering the State towards continuous progress and development.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Sarawak Day continues to serve as an important platform to commemorate the history of the State’s formation while reinforcing the shared identity, unity, and spirit of cooperation among its diverse communities.
He emphasised that the historic date of 22 July marked the beginning of Sarawak’s administration by local leaders, laying the foundation for the State’s journey as a self-governing region before the formation of Malaysia.
“Sarawak’s achievements today were built upon the collective efforts of its people and leaders who remained committed to advancing the State through sustainable development and inclusive growth.
“In the spirit of Sarawak Day, we are witnessing the State’s progress gaining greater momentum through new economic transformations driven by renewable energy, the digital economy, and high-value industries,” he said in a special message in conjunction with Sarawak Day 2026 today as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) News.
He added that various State government initiatives, including free higher education opportunities for Sarawakian children, as well as major infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, and rural connectivity networks, continued to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of the people.
He stressed that Sarawak’s development agenda was not solely focused on physical infrastructure, but also on creating opportunities and building a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future for all Sarawakians.
At the same time, Awang Tengah reiterated that Sarawak would continue to uphold its commitment to safeguarding the state’s rights in accordance with the Federal Constitution, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report.
He called on all Sarawakians to continue preserving the State’s unity and harmony, while working together to drive progress and secure a better future for generations to come.
“Together, let us build a more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient state towards a more glorious future,” he said, expressing his hope that Sarawak would continue to advance, remain peaceful, and be blessed. — DayakDaily
