KUCHING, July 21: Sarawak Day, celebrated every 22 July, is not only a significant occasion to commemorate the State’s history and identity, but also serves as an important reminder to all Sarawakians of the goals that remain to be achieved and the continuous efforts needed to advance the State’s development agenda.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian said the date, which was gazetted as Sarawak Independence Day in 2016, carries deep significance for all Sarawakians as a symbol of the State’s journey and aspirations.
“The celebration should be embraced by all Sarawakians regardless of where they are, including those living outside the Sarawak, as an expression of shared identity, pride and unity.
“Every year, the Sarawak government organises official celebrations on a rotational basis in various towns and districts to ensure that people across the state have the opportunity to participate and be part of the commemoration,” he said in his message in conjunction with Sarawak Day 2026 today as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) News.
He also encouraged members of the public to take part in the celebrations actively, rather than merely observing, as the occasion belongs to all Sarawakians.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, added that Sarawak Day provides an opportunity for the people to reflect on the state’s achievements, recognise the progress made, and reaffirm their commitment towards the aspirations and targets set under Sarawak’s ongoing development agenda.
“22 July is a very important day for us to assess our achievements and plan the future of Sarawak towards building a more developed and inclusive state,” he said.
He concluded his message by extending Sarawak Day greetings to all Sarawakians and called for the spirit of unity and togetherness to continue being strengthened for the collective progress and prosperity of the State. — DayakDaily
