KUCHING, Oct 2: Sarawak‘s own streaming television channel, TV Sarawak (TVS) will have its first ever live telecast on Oct 10, 2020.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian announced that TVS will be on Astro channel 122 starting that night, broadcasting the celebration of Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 84th birthday.

“TVS will start its first live broadcast on October 10. This is very significant for Sarawak because we are the only state to have our own television channel.

“The actual official launching will be on the next night (Oct 11).

“This also cuts off the ‘Sarawak first’ where we have our own international school, our own bank DBOS (Development of Bank Sarawak), our own trade office in Singapore and so on,” he asserted during a press conference on the revelation of TYT’s birthday celebration programme at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim revealed that there would be no parade or march past by the various contingents during TYT’s birthday celebration from Oct 9 to 11 this year in Kuching due to the Covid-19 situation.

“On Oct 11, His Excellency will attend a High Tea Reception at the Waterfront Hotel where he will present cash to frontliners as appreciation for their involvement during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Government, public sector and private buildings are advised to light up their respective buildings during the three-day celebration,” he added. — DayakDaily
