Sarawak’s new Covid-19 cases drop to 1,244 as Kuching, Miri and Sibu register triple-digit case counts

KUCHING, March 6: New Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak declined to 1,244 today with one fatality in Samarahan as the districts of Kuching, Miri and Sibu registered triple-digit case counts.

This brings the total cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the State to 267,665 and the death toll to 1,631.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, Kuching once again reported the highest increase in new daily cases with 446, followed by Miri (235) and Sibu (147).


Eleven districts throughout the State reported double-digit gains, comprising Samarahan (78), Bintulu (58), Serian (56), Sarikei (37), Bau (33), Limbang (17), Mukah (16), Lawas (15), Kanowit (13), Belaga (12) and Saratok (10).

Other districts reporting new cases were Sri Aman (9), Meradong (8), Kapit (8), Marudi (7), Dalat (5), Asajaya (4), Beluru (4), three cases each in Betong, Simunjan and Matu, two cases each in Lundu, Song, Daro, Lubok Antu, Selangau, Subis and Sebauh, while Pakan, Kabong and Tebedu reported one case each.

Of today’s new cases, four patients were under Category 5 with lung infections and required ventilators, four more were in Category 4 with lung infections and required oxygen, and three patients s were in Category 3 with lung infections. There were a total of 669 cases under Category 2 with mild symptoms, and 564 cases under Category 1 with no symptoms.

The sole Covid-19 fatality was a 72-year-old man from Samarahan with high blood pressure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He passed away on March 4 in Simunjan Hospital.

As of today, four clusters remain active in the State but did not register any new cases.

Meanwhile, nine individuals were compounded by the police in Kuching for failure to check-in using the MySejahtera app when entering various premises. — DayakDaily
