Sarawak’s green, sustainable vision to be presented at UN climate summit in Brazil

KUCHING, Nov 11: Sarawak’s Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abg Hipni will deliver a keynote address on Sarawak’s green energy journey at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.

He is scheduled to speak at the Science Panel for Borneo and will deliver a keynote address on The Sarawak Journey, highlighting Sarawak’s efforts in advancing sustainable growth and green energy initiatives.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), his presentation will highlight Sarawak’s strategic approach to clean energy transition, forest conservation, and sustainable economic growth under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).

“Our participation reflects Sarawak’s growing leadership in advancing renewable energy and balancing development with environmental stewardship,” he said, noting that Sarawak’s policies align with global climate goals and the Paris Agreement.

Accompanied by four officers from his ministry and 20 officers from Malaysia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Sarawak, Dr Hazland’s participation also signals Sarawak’s readiness to share its experience in hydropower development, carbon management, and nature-based solutions, areas that have positioned the state as a regional model for sustainable progress.

Opened by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Belém Climate Summit brought together representatives from 153 delegations to discuss urgent measures for addressing global warming. – DayakDaily
