KUCHING, May 5: Sarawak’s green economy approach is expected to draw investors, especially from Asia, to the State, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari said Sarawak is the only State which has such a policy to transform its economy into a green economy.

According to him, currently only two companies from South Korea and Japan through Samsung and Sumitomo are producing 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen (annual capacity) in the State for their own consumption.

“So with this involvement, the world has seen Sarawak as the only State in Asia that focuses on the needs of a green economy in line with the needs of the world today,” he told reporters after attending ‘Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri N26 Gedong’ at a local hotel, here today.

Abang Johari reiterated that he will be giving a speech at the World Hydrogen Summit which will be held from May 9 until 11 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

“Insyallah, with this introduction, I think (the) green (economy) will lead (investors) to our region, especially for Southeast Asia,” he said.

He also pointed out that Sarawak has the advantage since the world is now embracing this new economic approach.

“That is why I introduced the digital and green economy approach. We have a wide market while at the same time contributing to a clean environment,” he added. — DayakDaily
